When Is Too Young to Get Botox?
One of the most common questions that we get from young patients is, “when is too young to get Botox?” That isn’t necessarily a cut and dry answer. First of all, people under the age of 18 aren’t allowed to get Botox without their parent’s consent. And although patients who are over the age of 18 can legally get Botox, whether or not they should is another question entirely.
One of the trickiest parts about Botox is that it’s not only used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, but it has also gained popularity for its ability to prevent the formation of these in the future. Even if you want to use Botox preventatively, you may not need it just yet. Let’s take a closer look at a few things to know about age and Botox.
Your Facial Movements Say It All
During your initial consultation, we will take a close look at your facial movements while you talk to us. People who tend to do things like scrunch up their forehead or squint their eyes when they are discussing are typically good candidates for preventative Botox. When patients make these repeated motions over and over, they are more likely to form deep creases in their skin. Botox works beautifully to prevent that.
You Fail the Forehead Test
Another thing that we will have you do during your consultation is to move the facial muscles in your forehead and around your eyebrows. After you do this, we will look to see how quickly your skin goes back to being smooth. If it bounces back quickly, then you probably don’t need Botox, but if it takes more time, then we may recommend it.
You Have Fine Lines
Some patients show signs of premature aging more than others. If you already have some fine lines around your eyes and forehead, then we may recommend that you get Botox to prevent them from deepening and getting worse.
