Brow Lift Basics

Droopy skin below your brows got you down? We all know how important your eyebrows are to your appearance, but it’s not just your brows that can change the way your face looks. When you age, your skin around your eyes can sag and droop making you look older and tired. That’s where brow lifts come in.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, sometimes known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that raises your eyebrows and smooths your forehead skin. It does this by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow for a youthful, rejuvenated appearance. If your brows are asymmetrical or sagging, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Brow lifts can shave years off your age and improve your self-confidence.

A brow lift can be done on its own or together with other facial procedures. For example, you might want to add it to a facelift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).

What To Expect

A brow lift can be done in 1-2 hours. It is an outpatient surgery, meaning you will be able to go home afterward. During your brow lift, you will typically be given general anesthesia, which will render you unconscious.

After your brow lift, your forehead will be loosely wrapped to minimize swelling. A small tube might be placed along the incision site to drain any excess fluid or blood.

We will provide you with specific post-op instructions for how to care for your incisions. In the first couple of days after your procedure you will need to:

  • Rest with your head elevated and take pain medication as recommended by your doctor
  • Apply cold compresses to relieve swelling
  • Avoid exposing your incisions to unnecessary pressure or motion

How Long Will My Results Last?

Unfortunately, your results can’t last forever. Gravity will take its toll again and your skin will eventually droop. However, some reports say their results can last up to 15 years.
