How to Minimize Scarring After a Breast Augmentation
When it comes to plastic surgery procedures, there will almost always be some sort of carrying involved. Here at our office, we pride ourselves on not only giving patients the best results but in ensuring that they don’t scar as much. One of the concerns that many of our breast augmentation patients have about surgery is scarring. Let’s take a closer look at a few things that you can do to minimize your chances of scarring after you get an augmentation.
Don’t Pick At It
If you are the type of person who picks at every blemish or scar that you have, then this suggestion may be hard for you. Picking at your scar will make it worse and a lot more noticeable. Try to avoid touching it at all while your skin heals. The less you touch it, and the more you leave it alone, the better it will be.
Try to Keep It moisturized
One of the best things you can do for your scar is to keep it moisturized as your skin heals. Try using a gentle over-the-counter cream like Eucerin or Aquaphor. And apply it directly on top of your scars while they are healing. If you don’t want to get the cream on your clothing or bras, then place a bandage over the top of it.
The last thing you should do is expose your scar to any sort of UV light, whether it’s the natural sun or a tanning bed. UV lights will darken the scar and make it more noticeable. Try to refrain from using a tanning bed while your scar is healing If you are going to be tanning outside, make sure that your swimsuit covers it up and also apply sunscreen on top of it beforehand.
Although having some visible scar is inevitable, there are a few things that you can do to avoid it from looking too noticeable. Keep these tips in mind going forward in the future.
