What Age Should I Start Botox?

Botox is still extremely popular when it comes to anti-aging treatments. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), an estimated 7 million injection procedures (including Botox) were performed last year alone and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. So, when is the best age to get started with Botox? Well, there isn’t really a “magic” age to start. Let’s take a look at how Botox will work for you by decade.

In Your 20s:

Starting Botox in your 20s is your best bet for “preventative” measures. That being said though, you likely won’t have any reason to start until at least your mid-20s. The lines you have when you smile usually go away when your face is at rest but once they start sticking around it might be a good time to start initial Botox treatments.

In Your 30s:

If you didn’t start Botox in your 20s, there’s still time to do it preventatively in your 30s. Depending on the amount of sun damage and muscle movement as well as those static lines, it’s probably a good ideat o get started by 35 at the latest. Studies have shown that too much mobility in the face does cause premature wrinkling.

In Your 40s:

Your 40s is probably when most people expect to start Botox if they didn’t begin earlier. Depending on your skin type and skin color, most white women are good to start Botox between 35 and 40. If you have a darker skin tone, you can likely start even later, think 40 to 45. If you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun, live in a higher altitude, or smoke, your skin might be showing signs of aging more than others. Truthfully, there isn’t a magical age for anyone to start Botox, it will mostly depend on your skin and what it’s been through in your life.
